Google Wave and SEO
Today the name “Google Wave” is all around. Google wave is Google’s new Communication and Collaboration platform. Wave is currently available for only developer preview and Google will launch it for the public later this year.
So what the Google wave is, have a look at this video and imaging what is possible in a browser:
Google Wave seems like a new in-browser communication and collaboration tool that is already being hailed by some as the next evolution of email. The concept behind Google Wave is to “unify” communication on the web. Discussions are too live in Google Wave. It combines the concepts of email, web chats, instant messaging, social networking and lot more in a single window.
What are main features of Google Wave ?
Google wave have several stunning features including:
- Embedding: Waves can be embedded in any blog or website.
- Wiki: Like a wiki anything written in waves can be edited by anyone as the platform is shared so anyone can correct the information or edit if required.
- Real Time: Its really Real Time, as you can see in the above video the user will see every keystroke of yours instead of waiting for Enter to be pressed.
- Drag and Drop Sharing: If you’ve watched the video you might wonder that what quality of sharing Google is going to provide. No need to attach a file just need to drag to wave.
- Playback feature: By using playback feature you can playback the conversation and see step by step conversation over there.

How can Google Wave help in SEO?
Google Wave is a real time communication platform, so it depends on the way how that communication is being performed. Though you can embed waves in your web pages and it seems that it will provide some SEO benefits as in the case of Google gadgets, but here Google may create a doubtful condition.
This will be likely be done in much the same manner as embedding videos, which is done through iframes, a non-SEOable web feature. So if Google is providing the facility of linkback then only it will be beneficial to the author otherwise not.
But leaving the link back part we can use this stunning tool as a social marketing and sharing tool.
While Google Wave is definitely not a first and foremost SEO tool, I do think that web developers will find ways to use it to improve the optimization on their sites using Google Wave.
